Welcome to my site.  It has been....

.... A few hundred years since the fall of Leprosy and the replacement of lepers with mental patients in lepersauriums, the beginning of the mental healthcare system, then featuring ice immersion and other such practices now perceived as barbaric...

.... A century since Nellie Blye infiltrated Bellview Mental Hospital in New York City to get a job as a journalist, the beginning of the career of the most renowned journalist of two centuries and the fall of the first layer of mental healthcare tyranny... what she uncovered opened the eyes of the world to a nightmare of abuse, neglect and inhumanitarianism that fully contradicted previous reports of the time....

.... About three-quarters of a century since the beginnings of psychiatrists' best friend, the pharmaceutical industry, which is among the most profitable in the US today....

.... A half century since the beginning of the least-often noted and most noteworthy organization that acts on behalf of mental patients, the worldwide Psychiatric Survivors, which is, unlike NAMI, actually patient-led, and which, un-like NAMI, is not well-liked by the mental healthcare professional classes...

.... A quarter-century since, in part due to the brilliant book, play and film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, labotamy, the practice of removing portion's of a mental patient's brain as last-resort treatment, was discontinued...

... as well as the electro-shock therapy treatment used forcibly on screaming victims.....

... and a little less than that since it started to come back into vogue...

.... About a decade since the publication of the DSM-IV, which took out homosexuality as a mental illness....

.... And it has been three years and five months since the mental healthcare system decimated everything I knew, everything I was, and everything I valued and aspired to be, all my dreams and all my pride and all my sense of safety, in the name of helping save me from me, which I was not a risk to myself at all, and a little less than two years less than that since I dragged a hunting knife across my wrist several times because I could not cope with the fear of it happening again, and again, and again, like so many before me, but I lived, and I am here to tell our stories, because I am a writer, and I do not condone the deprivation of freedom without charge, whether it is under the National Defense Authorization Act, under mental health care law, or under any other premise, no sir, I believe in freedom through and through.
